Nowhere to Run…

I think Shango impersonating Snoopy has the right idea.  He's tired of being sad too.

It occurred to me that recently, strips have contained references to many recent things in my life.  Friends and heroes passing, birthdays, plugs for stuff I like, webcomic conventions.

Sometimes that happens.  I get on a roll for these things in the context of the strip and it's hard to dig out.

So, this week, a bit of a step back in the general direction of the strip without plugs.

I actually did a bit more background art than usual.  There have been times where Casey has mentioned being in the woods or references have been made to the woods behind Casey's house.  And of course, they are shown on that original map I did of Andbait back in the day (the 'thicket', it's where they park the ship, of course).

Someone recently mentioned to me that Vayda seems a bit like 'Rose' from Two and a Half Men, but  she was originally based on two people.  Darth Vader and a girl I went to school with.   She was originally supposed to be the antagonist in this overall story, but, I soon realized, almost by accident, that Vayda is actually the manifestation of love in the strip.  She eventually became part of the inner circle group, and the rest is history.  When Mowbot came along, he became the antagonist (when we need one), and even he is not so bad anymore.  Such is life.  Sometimes enemies are just misunderstood.

The real difference between Rose and Vayda is, Casey actually LIKES Vayda, but he's twelve, so he's right on the border of love and hate.

Gosh, I hope that's not all I am remembered for.  Don't get me wrong, I do like my day job, but it wears me out.  I feel like I am in this office so long sometimes that I forget what's happening in the outside world.  And Skype is just not the same.

And believe me when I tell you, this strip is right on the money.  Those of you in the IT world will understand the late night weekend releases, the long hours of waiting for the team that precedes your event to wrap up what they are doing.  They are always late and that makes you always late for the next group.  You don't dare fall asleep, because they will get sudden inspiration and finish early.

I must say, though, God bless Dr. Pepper for release the Dr. Pepper 10.  Whatever you think of the commercials, it was nice to know I only consumed 240 calories from that 24 pack as opposed to the 3600 I would have consumed drinking regular DP.  And it does not taste chalky like Diet Dr. Pepper.   I also learned a long time ago, although rice is high in calories, if you eat it for a late nigth snack, it will keep you going until breakfast.  It used to be beef jerky and doritos, but those just make you sleepy.

Special shout out to Pandora radio.  Could not make it through three nights in a row without you.

Of course, DROPPABURGER is a fictional version of the many fast food places I USED to visit during weekend releases when I had to go into downtown to do them.  My office was a wonderland of trash from burger joints, pizza parlors, and cheap chinese food restaurants.

The more I think about it, Droppaburger is a great name for a burger joint.   Maybe I should open one.
